Size, Capacity and Material

6.5 quart in liquid capacity is a spot-on size for small to medium-sized families.

The materials used in this cooker are top of the line in quality and in design functionality. The base of the cooking pot is what WMF calls TransTherm base. What it really means is that a disk of aluminum is inserted in between two layers of heavy gauge Cromargan 18/10 stainless steel.

Cromargan is the registered trademark by WMF for 18/10 stainless steel with 18% chrome,10% nickel and 72% steel. The chrome makes the material stainless and nickel provides acid-resistant property and gloss.

This combination of materials leverages the excellent heat conductive property in aluminum while maintaining the durability and the shiny exterior of stainless steel. Don’t forget stainless steel is also non-reactive to acid foods and very easy to clean.

Safety Features

Safety Valves

I’ve never seen a design like this WMF pressure cooker in some of the best pressure cooker brands. All the safety features are packed in the handle of the cooker.

All you need to do is to twist the handle to close or open the lid; to set a pressure level for cooking delicate vegetables or fish or to cooking tough meats and poultry; or to automatically release the pressure from the pot after cooking is done.

The safety valve, also as the automatic heating system allows air to escape during the heating phrase until the valve closes for the pressure to build up. If excess pressure occurs, a gentle “alarm” will sound off to alert you to lower the heat to keep the pressure at the appropriate level.

Seal: Gasket

The pressure cooker is sealed with an airtight fit via a sealing ring or gasket underneath the lid. The cooking time is reduced by as much as 2/3 due to the concealed cooker and the pressurized cooking method. The vitamins and nutrients are enhanced by 50% more than conventional cooking methods and flavors from the foods are retained to please the most discerning palette.

A bayonet lock is equipped for securely locking the pot while cooking. You can’t open the pot until the pressure is completely released.

Pressure Indicator for 2 Pressure Levels – Low and High

On the same handle, there is a pressure indicator with two levels of pressure. As each level is reached in the cooker, the indicator shows the corresponding orange lines on the indicator.

Pressure Release Methods

As usual, you can release the pressure in the pot by either running cold water in the sink or let it sit for a while to naturally release the pressure. If you are impatient or you are cooking some delicate foods, the automatic release method is the best bet. Turn on the dial on the handle pointing to the “steam” and the pressure will be released automatically until the pressure indicator subsides into the handle. By then, it’s your sign to open the lid away from you and take the first whiff of the delicious food.

There are two handles with the primary one armed with all the safety features and the helper handle for easy transport of the port. The handles are made of black phenolic material that stays cool to the touch. There is also flame protection on the handles.

Easy to Use and Clean

With the smart design, it’s easy to use the pressure cooker. You may use the cooking pot to saut√© or brown the meat first, add the required liquid per the marked line in the pot, close the lid. Then you can push the latch on the handle to make sure the lid is securely closed. Set the pressure level in the same handle. It’s ready to go. When the pressure starts building up, you will see some steam coming out of the valve. Then the valve will close completely to allow the pressure level to rise to the desirable level.

Cleaning the cooker is a snap. The handle with all the safety features can be removed very easily and be cleaned without any worrying about getting the valve wet. The pot and the lid without the handle are dishwasher-safe.
