Introduction

As an international brand headquartered in Spain, Fagor is one of the most under-rated, yet over-delivered names in pressure cookers.

This Fagor Elite 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set proves exactly this point with its versatility, performance and value. Life is all about doing more with less. Read on to see how this set can be a workhorse in your kitchen.

Size, Capacity and Material

5-pieces are included in the set. They are 4 and 8 quart sized pots, two interchangeable lids with one for pressure cooking and the other for conventional stovetop cooking; a steamer basket and a trivet. The utility for this set is endless. Use the 4-quart size one to cook a side-dish such as wild mushroom risotto or brown rice infused with organic chicken broth; make the larger one to work for you to stew a pot roast with root vegetables. Not in the mood for pressure cooking? Then use either or both pots for conventional cooking. The glass tempered lid can be used to cover either pot.

Speaking of size, the quart size is about liquid capacity. The 4-quart is perfect for singles or couples. The 8-quart is plenty for a big family.

This set is made of 18/10 stainless steel with Fagor’s signature impact bounded diffuser base. To put it simply, the pots have an aluminum base infused in between two layers of stainless steel. The aluminum is known for its super heat conductivity and even heat distribution. The stainless steel is to add the shine and aesthetic appeal to the cookware in addition to the non-reactive nature to acidic food and durability. This is a match made in heaven in terms of metallurgy.

The stovetop lid is made of tempered glass for easy view of what’s being cooked in the pot. The pressure cooker lid holds all the safety features that will put your fear of pressure cooking to rest, once for all!

Safety Features

Safety Valves

The safety valve is spring-loaded for releasing excess pressure build up. This valve is located under the lid.

With high pressure build up, the steam will be released from the safety vent in the cutout in the rim of the lid. This is intended as a redundancy/or emergency safety measure in the event the primary safety valves malfunction.

Seal: Gasket

Like all Fagor pressure cookers, a silicone gasket is deployed under the lid to ensure an air-tight seal between the lid and the cooking pot. It’s always a best practice to check the gasket to make sure there are no signs of wear and tear before cooking.

Lid

No more jiggles and rocking sound like a traditional pressure regulator. The modern design of the safety features stars with the lid, to be more exact, the handle on the lid.

The operating valve consists of three dials: a pressure setting, an automatic pressure release position and an unlock position.

To lock the cooker, simple push the latch on the handle forward. To unlock, do the opposite (slide the latch towards you). The pressure will not be built unless the pressure is locked. Similarly, the pressure cooker can’t be opened until the pressure is released completely.

Pressure Indicator

The pressure is indicated by a yellow rod on the far end of the long lid handle. As the cooker is heated and pressure built, the yellow rod will rise automatically with a small amount of steam. When the indicator is completely raised, that means there is pressure in the cooker and the lid can’t be opened from this point on.

Pressure Setting

There are two pressure level settings of 8 and 15 psi (pounds per square  inch). The 15 psi is a universal standard for pressure cooking.  The 8 psi offers an option to cook more delicate foods such as seafood and vegetables without overcooking. As I mentioned earlier, the pressure indicator is located on the far-end of the long handle.

Pressure Release Methods

An automatic pressure release method is designed in this pressure cooker. All you need to do is turn the dial to the “steam” icon position. The pressure will be released immediately and safely.

Handle

The primary handle was already covered above with all the safety features. There is also a helper handle on the opposite end for moving and carrying the pot from one spot to another.

Easy to Use and Clean

As always, read the User Manual cover to cover very carefully. Better yet, get on YouTube to watch a demo video of the pressure cooker or a similar Fagor model.

You can wash most of the components in this set with the exception of the pressure lid in the dishwasher if you like. Or wash them by hand with some warm soapy water.

Accessories

A steamer and a trivet are included in the set and so are the User Manual and a recipe book.
